John 2:12–25
Jesus cleanses the Temple as Malachi predicted in preparation for the coming of the kingdom. Zeal for His Father’s house consumes Him. And in His conversation with the Jews, He connects the Temple and His body, revealing that the Temple would no longer be the focal point for the worship of God. Instead, it will be in Jesus. He will be the Mediator between God and man.
And though Jesus’s actions are a fulfillment of Scripture, the Jews still ask, “What sign are you going to show us?” The ultimate sign will be His resurrection.
Some believe. Some don’t. But the good news is: as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believed in His name. That’s still true today.
If you have not yet trusted in Jesus, today’s a great day to do that. It starts with recognizing that you are a sinner in need of a Savior and believing that Jesus is the Savior whom God promised. He lived a perfect life and died a sacrificial death. He rose on the third day, proving that He conquered both sin and death, so that by believing in Him, we can be saved. We can become children of God—not because of anything that we have done, but because of what Jesus did. The Innocent who died for the guilty so the guilty could be declared innocent.
